10 top tips to wedding planning during engagement season

Some of you will wake up to a sparkler on your finger and talk will turn very quickly to the day itself so I’ve pulled together some top tips to get you started.

Breathe

Enjoy that sparkle, team it with a bottle of sparkly and revel in the moment when you tell your friends and family – you could even do a photography reveal if you’re good at keeping secrets.

Start wedding planning early

It doesn’t matter how early or late you begin planning, you day will be here in the blink of an eye so start researching your style and understand the type of wedding that you want, the people you want to share it with, the budget you’re happy to spend and seek out your favourite suppliers.

Nail the budget!

Know what you want to spend, and stay within it, you will become overwhelmed by choice and your budget will keep you on track. Remember to budget for alterations, gifts, tips, beauty trail trials etc – the cost can creep up quickly.

Book your celebrant and venue

Many people leave their celebrant to later in the process but without them there is no wedding, you need a venue and then you need someone to pronounce your union.

Give yourself the gift of organisation!

Start compiling a list of must have contacts on the day of your wedding so that anyone in your wedding party can step in if things are a little behind schedule to let your suppliers know what’s happening.

Make sure you make room for your wedding party at the top of the aisle!

Oh boy it gets busy up there – do you want them all standing, is there room?  Also consider the amount of room your photographer and videographer need to move freely to capture your special moments.  This is where a groomsman and best man are vital to the success of your wedding – they’re in charge of those chairs and making sure your top people are beside you.

Research your photography needs

Make sure your photographer is someone that offers the style you want and meet with them.  Everyone will say they want candid natural photographs, but I can guarantee that on the day someone in your wedding party will look for group shots and your photographer must have experience in getting the best from everyone involved.

Engagement shoots, sometimes known as pre-wedding shoots prepare you for what to come on the day and they help you build a strong relationship with your photographer.

Beauty your way!

Go for as many trials as you want to so that you not only look amazing but also feel amazing.  If you’re not used to wearing make-up, then it can feel like a mask, and you will be aware of it all day.

Give your groom his own responsibilities!

Get ready to compromise because as the day gets closer your fiancé will naturally become more involved so be sure to hand over some responsibilities.

Enjoy every second

The day will be here before you know it and it will also be over before you know it so enjoy the planning, enjoy picking elements that reflect your personalities, understand what you want from your photographs – do you want a centrepiece for your home, take advantage of Pinterest boards, planning sites, exciting planning stationery and most of all enjoy each other.
